You may have heard from people who do not have complete knowledge about Search Engine algorithms that leaving your link on an “inner page” that is new or has a low or 0 Page Rank inside of a high Page Rank domain will do your site no good. This is a fallacy.

Keyword research tools are better at providing a qualitative measure than a quantitative measure, so don't be surprised if actual traffic volumes vary greatly from the numbers suggested by these tools. When in doubt you can also set up a Google AdWords account to test the potential size of a market. In addition to looking up search volumes for what keywords you think are important also take the time to ask past customers how they found you, why they chose you, and what issues were important to them in choosing you. On Page Optimization
It is hard to rank for keywords that do not appear in your page content, so each page should be organized around the goal of ranking for a specific keyword phrase, with some related phrases and related keywords mixed into the page copy. Unique descriptive page titles play a crucial role in a successful search engine optimization campaigns. Page titles appear in the search results, and many people link to pages using the page title as their link anchor text. If possible create hand crafted meta description tags which compliment the page title by reinforcing your offer. If the relevant keywords for a page have multiple formats it may make sense to help focus the meta description on versions you did not use in the page title. As far as page content goes, make sure you write for humans, and use heading tags to help break up the content into logical sections which will improve the scanability and help structure the document. When possible, make sure your page content uses descriptive modifiers as well. Each page also needs to be sufficiently unique from other pages on your site. Do not let search engines index printer friendly versions of your content, or other pages where content is duplicate or nearly duplicate.
Link Building
Search engines view links at votes, with some votes counting more than others. To get high quality links (that help your site rank better) you need to participate in the social aspects of your community and give away valuable unique content that people talk about and share with others. Brand Building
Brand related search queries tend to be some of the most targeted, best converting, and most valuable keywords. As you gain mindshare people will be more likely to search for your brand or keywords related to your brand. A high volume of brand related search traffic may also be seen as a sign of quality by major search engines. If you build a strong brand when people search for more information about your brand and other websites have good things to say about your brand, these interactions help reinforcing your brand image and improving your lead quality and conversion rates. Things like advertising and community activity are easy ways to help improve your brand exposure, but obviously branding is a lot more complicated than that. One of my favorite books about branding is Rob Frankel's The Revenge of Brand X. Keyword research and ad campaigns A competitive analysis always begins with keyword research. "Search for your most obvious terms, including your brands and trademarks on the search engines," said Cam Balzer, Director of Search Strategy at Performics. "If you see your competitors consistently showing up in both natural and pay-per-click (PPC) search results, you know you are dealing with search-savvy competitors." "PPC ads tell you what terms are important to your competition," said Allan Dick, General Manager of Vintage Tub and Bath. Based on this keyword research, Balzer recommended building a matrix of both keywords and competitors. "With PPC campaigns, you can estimate your competitors' spend," he said. "You can view current cost-per-clicks from Overture's search interface, and you can calculate total costs based on the number of estimated searches per month, and estimated CTR baselines (5% for position one, 3% for position two, 1% for position three)." "If the competition is aggressively bidding for the first position, it may make sense to manage against positions two and three and also managing against acquisition metrics," advised David Williams, Chief Strategist and Co-Founder of 360i.
Search engine optimization campaigns Monitoring search engine ads are not the only way to gather competitive information. Natural search results can also provide information about link development strategies and keyword research. "With natural search results, you can extract keywords from the titles, meta tags, headings, etc. on your competitors' actual Web pages," said Balzer. Allan Dick uses natural search results to determine distributor information, manufacturing contacts, newspaper/magazine articles, and the marketing firms competitors use. For example, if you want to find your competitors' distributors, search for the manufacturer name and product name in a title, using Google's advanced search page. Dick also uses eBay for competitive research. "Using your top keywords, search through the listings and find up-and-coming sellers, new product offerings, and different product terms," he said. "Take a look at your competitor's feedback for useful information." In addition, many newspaper and magazine articles appear in reverse link look-ups, indicating your competitors' PR campaign strategies. "Look at the anchor text of some of the links," said Williams. "If the competitor has more links with anchor text that includes the targeted terms, then the site is much more likely to rank for the targeted terms." Search engines offer a plethora of information about your own site and your competitors' sites, ranging from advertising, SEO, to publicity campaigns. Understanding how to search and diligently monitoring search results often provides valuable information about the players in your industry.

1 Post viral videosThere are millions of videos on YouTube. If you post a video nobody is interested in, this video will go unnoticed, as millions of other videos. The clue to getting traffic from YouTube is to post useful videos, or even better – viral videos. Viral videos are not only useful videos, but they also tend to appeal to large groups of people. When a video is longer than 6 or 7 minutes, this gets boring and not many people will watch it to the end (where your logo and URL are to be found). 3 to 5 minutes is enough to lay your idea, give some details AND tell viewers to visit your site for more.
11 Comment on other people's videos and include a link to your site in your commentIn addition to video responses, you can also use plain good comments. Again, search for popular videos in your niche and comment on them. If your comments are liked by viewers, they will check your profile and probably watch your videos.

Sometimes you can agree to a barter deal – i.e. a link exchange – they will put on their site N links to your site and you will put on your site N links to their site - but have in mind that this is a bad, risky deal and you should always try to avoid it.

There are ways to optimize your image to come out in the first results for a given search. Optimizing these images is not as complicated as many think, the factors that influence the positioning of images are: Filename: You have to put a name according to how you find your image. A name containing the keywords. To find your average CPC take you’re the amount of money you have earned from AdSense (daily, monthly, or all time) and divide it by your total clicks (daily, monthly, or all time).

  1. If you absolutely MUST use Java script drop down menus, image maps or image links, be sure to put text links somewhere on the page for the spiders to follow.
  2. Content is king, so be sure to have good, well-written and unique content that will focus on your primary keyword or keyword phrase.
  3. If content is king, then links are queen. Build a network of quality backlinks using your keyword phrase as the link. Remember, if there is no good, logical reason for that site to link to you, you don’t want the link.
  4. Don’t be obsessed with PageRank. It is just one isty bitsy part of the ranking algorithm. A site with lower PR can actually outrank one with a higher PR.

  11. Check for canonicalization issues – www and non-www domains. Decide which you want to use and 301 redirect the other to it. In other words, if http://www.domain.com is your preference, then http://domain.com should redirect to it.

Outside links go to http://www.domain.com and internal links go to http://www.domain.com/index.html. Ditch the index.html or default.php or whatever the page is and always link back to your domain.
  13. Frames, Flash and AJAX all share a common problem – you can’t link to a single page. It’s either all or nothing. Don’t use Frames at all and use Flash and AJAX sparingly for best SEO results.
